Do you know the Comparison of Typical Chinese and Western Festivals?
Valentine's Day and Qixi Festival
Valentine's Day is one of the traditional festivals in the West, which falls on February 14 every year. The origin of Valentine's Day originated from the Roman Empire in the 3rd century AD.
According to legend, the emperor of the Roman Empire announced that he would abandon all marriage promises in order to let more men go to the battlefield without any worries. But there was a priest named Valentine who did not follow the emperor's will, but continued to hold weddings in the church for the loved ones. After the Roman emperor found out, he sent Father Valentine to the gallows and hanged him on February 14. Valentine's spirit of sacrificing himself for justice and pure love was respected by everyone. Later, in order to commemorate Valentine, Christians designated the day of his death as St. Valentine's Day, and later generations called this day. The day was changed to Valentine's Day.

Qixi Festival
The origin of the Qixi Festival is always closely related to this folklore - the love story of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl. Roughly speaking, it is about an orphan Cowherd. After being abused by his brother and sister-in-law, by chance, he met the Zhinv who went down to earth privately. Because of their love, they soon became a happy couple. But when the Queen Mother found out about this, she was furious and came down to earth in person to bring Zhinv back to heaven forcibly. The loving couple was about to be separated. With the help of an old cow who had attained the Tao, the Cowherd put on shoes made of cowhide and went to the sky to chase the Weaver Girl. When the Queen Mother saw this, she immediately pulled off the golden hairpin on her head and waved, and a turbulent Tianhe appeared. Although there are insurmountable natural dangers, their loyalty and love still moved the magpies, so thousands of magpies flew to build a bridge of magpies and let them meet on the bridge of magpies. The Queen Mother had no choice but to allow the two to meet at the Magpie Bridge on July 7 every year.

Christmas and Chinese National Day
Christmas
In fact, Christmas is the celebration of the birth of the Son, Jesus Christ. It is said that Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. The messenger Gabriel told Joseph in a dream that he would not want Mary because of her unmarried pregnancy, but rather marry her, and named the child "Jesus", meaning that he would save the people from their sins.
When Mary was about to give birth, the Roman government issued an order that all the people must go to Bethlehem to declare their domicile. Joseph and Mary had to obey. When they arrived in Bethlehem, it was already dark, but the two could not find a hotel to stay overnight, and there was only one stable for temporary accommodation. Just then, Jesus was about to be born. So Mary gave birth to Jesus only in the manger. In order to commemorate the birth of Jesus, later generations set December 25 as Christmas to commemorate the birth of Jesus.
Since then, Christmas will be celebrated at this time of year, and at Christmas time, people will eat turkey, and most importantly, they will cut a tree outside for decoration, and hang colorful strings around the tree. lamp
